October 2, 2023: Winning the Bid on 3066 Sledge Rd, A miracle!

So here is the story. I have looked over foreclosures for two years. Scott and I prayed for one near the lake preferably outside of the lake so as not to have to pay dues. I have gone to several auctions at the courthouse, in fact I have placed a bid in the past even without the required certified check on hand. I had been overbid by others. I was testing the new venture.

In October, prayed and said Lord, I just keep looking and I will just wait until you have one for me and saw this property in the newspaper. I remember telling Scott, this is the one. We agreed. This time, I know I want to be ready have that 5 % down required so I headed to the bank a few minutes before auction starts, they are a block away. To my horror as I lined up, I discovered that I did not have my wallet nor any ID. I proceeded to line up and in hope of a miracle that I can somehow get a certified check. Back story, my bank branch was in Bunn but had closed out in Sept, so I am new walk in at Louisburg location which I had been in a couple of times. The lady that had served me in the past was not very friendly. So, when I lined up, the cashier said, "well, does anybody know you here?" I replied, well, the other cashier has seen me before. So, I proceeded to lined up hoping that she would recognize me. Thankfully she did, still not very cheerful as a customer rep should be, lol. She said she has seen me before and that she will prepare the cashier's check for me.

Whew, I had a couple of minutes and headed to the courthouse. I was the only one there except for the announcer. I won the bid that day but had to wait for the 10 days upset bid in which no one bid so I actually got the property. I just knew the Lord wanted us to have this one.

When I took possession and walk inside for the first time, I remember the distinct feeling of peace that came over me, despite looking at a house that probably should have been incinerated, lol. I mean there were lots of garbage that has been there for months, and other stuff for which I will spare you the detail.

Despite the chaos, I remember thinking, the Lord wanted us to have this, so everything is going to be ok.

Fast forward to early January.

In the last two months, we got to know Brother Russell Walls, who was a retired veteran. He and his 16-year-old son was living in a one-bedroom hotel. They could not find a place to rent at. We have had them over for dinner multiple times with the missionaries. He recently joined the church. He was divorced and was recently trying to re unit with his son.

Over the months that we have worked there, day and night, we have had so many that walked in asking if we are either selling or renting the place. I got several phone calls of interest. We were undecided whether to sell or rent the place. We were waiting on the Lord, while we yet work on the property. Even though Scott and I decided that we would take the full year to work on it so that we are not pressured and still have family time, we were still impressed to finish at least the 3 rooms that we had been working on for months. The thought that came to mind last week was the Lord speaking to me saying "Look, I can give you what you want for this house, rent or sell, as you can see with all the calls, but are you willing to do something else for now" and Sunday morning Scott told me about his thoughts that perhaps Russel could use the place.

My hesitation were two things, the place is not finished and second, I didn't want anyone to think I would be taking advantage of anyone by charging on an unfinished place, especially if it's members of the church. We invited him to view the place if he was interested in using parts of the house, and sure enough he was thankful for the opportunity, and they moved in the following Monday.

Prior to even winning the bid, because I was confident in the Lord, I would get the place, I had envisioned and promised the Lord that when I get the bid, I would help Julio Perez by inviting him to do some work there. Because we were taking our time, we didn't know exactly what job we wanted him to do, then we got an email from our Bishop about Julio needing some work. So, I knew I needed to get him there immediately to honor my promise. The Lord works in amazing ways, I never cease to wonder, and I absolutely love it. Another miracle where the Lord showed me He knows the end from the beginning, and I just have to trust Him.
